WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE EDUCATED?
Humanity is facing numerous personal, social and environmental problems. These problems are the unwanted results of our collective actions. Is this self-harm the mark of our intelligence or are we missing something in our education?
conscience development
All of our actions from local to global are merely a reflection of our level of awareness. To move from problems towards solutions requires us to raise our awareness through conscience development in education. Here, conscience development means developing the mindset and ability which ensures harmony between human beings and with the environment. This can be achieved through a holistic education rooted in universal values
an outdated approach
The current education system was designed and conceived in a different era, during the age of enlightenment and the industrial revolution of the 19th century. The world has since changed and our circumstances are different, yet the fundamentals of our education system have remained the same. While this system has found limited success in the economic aspects of life, it simply does not address all important dimensions of human life
THE H3 OBJECTIVES
H3 education takes a holistic approach by recognizing and addressing three principal dimensions of life — Our inner self, our relationships with each other and our livelihood.
The end objective is for students to find fulfillment in all three of these areas. This can be explained as accomplishing the H3 objectives — Healthy state of mind, Healthy human relationships and responsible livelihood leading to a Healthy planet
what is really important?
For finding fulfillment in all three dimensions, the H3 objectives have been further expanded into 21 life essential themes. These broad, universally relevant and timeless themes are used as the playing field in which all study, exploration and research by students and teachers takes place for accomplishing H3
what about the subjects?
The standard subjects are the necessary and indispensable tools for exploring the life-essential themes and accomplishing the H3 objectives. When the subjects become directional and meaningful in this way, students can see the relevance of each subject to their daily lives. Subjects, like tools, are not ranked hierarchically. Instead, they are used based on necessity to understand and express whatever topic is at hand. This interdisciplinary approach encourages creativity, divergent thinking, systems thinking, and leads to the all-round development and versatility of students
relationships and systems
H3 Education is based on the Coexistential Worldview and explores life-essential themes using a system-based, relationship-centered learning approach. This approach fosters a wholesome vision by applying a zoom-in, zoom-out technique. Zooming in allows us to understand the definite characteristics of a particular entity at the centre of study, while zooming out allows us to understand its role or participation in the big picture.
This method supports students to see that everything in coexistence is useful and exists together in a rich web of complementary relationships. In turn, they come to see that the wellbeing of anything innately depends on the wellbeing of everything else. Ultimately, through this process students begin to explore their significance and develop the ability to become complimentary in all of their relationships
An accessible solution
H3 Education is designed to be practical and accessible for everyone, everywhere. It can be utilized in both home education programs as well as in school settings. Our H3 Education curriculum itself is comprehensive, which allows subject-based curriculum from any local school board to be seamlessly integrated into it. Thus, every subject can be properly addressed through H3 Education’s meaningful context.
